As they say, “Necessity is the mother of creation.” Paying homage to both classic and contemporary Bamboo interpretations, Gucci recently presented the slick Bamboo Retrospective Exhibition in November at Marina Bay Sands and Paragon, Singapore. With vintage and modern Bamboo bags on display, the exhibition re-told Gucci’s Bamboo story – its evolution from merely a pragmatic solution in post-war Italy (fine leather and metal materials were in short supply, so Gucci’s Florentine craftsmen had to think of a feasible solution for their bags), to becoming an icon of luxury. For Gucci’s Spring/Summer collection, Frida Giannini presented a new edge to the classic and re-releases the New Bamboo.
