Baume & Mercier’s Capeland collection 2012/2013

Baume & Mercier’s Capeland collection 2012/2013

Maybe you are in need of a new time piece? Maybe you’re in the search of a present for someone special? Or maybe you just wanted to check out the new Baume & Mercier’s Capeland collection? Regardless: Welcome, you have come to the right place!

Baume & Mercier’s Capeland collection 2012/2013 is a delightful mix of refined watchmaking, attention to detail and timelessness. The watches are distinguished by the two-tone dial, allowing the collection to draw on the aesthetics of the 1950s. We’ve picked our three favourite styles:

Going from left to right, the Capeland 10068 watch blends polished steel with a black dial, gilt vintage Breguet-style hands and a brown alligator strap with ivory overstitching. Round and polished like a pebble, it is the perfect “seaside” watch for a man in love with the great outdoors.

If you are less outdoorsy, and in the mood for something a bit different, then there is the Capeland 10006 steel model, where Baume & Mercier have opted for an off-white dial with blued steel hands and a black alligator strap. A beautiful watch with a pop of colour, making checking the time just that little bit more special.

If these two don’t quite float your boat, maybe the Capeland 10007 is the one to consider. This watch takes us to the peak of refinement with its satin-polished 18K red gold machined case, complementing the grey dial with gilt hands and the warmth of the brown alligator strap with ivory overstitching.

We’ve picked our favourite three – which one do you like best?

All three bags

‘Cut and Craft’ – the winners of Gucci’s paper craft competition are found

These bags are the three winners of Gucci’s social media competition ‘Icons of Heritage – Cut & Craft, launched on September 2 of this year. And we understand why! They are absolutely stunning – colourful, inventive and quirky to say the least.

Before we get into who made these divine bags however, let’s just briefly revisit the idea behind the competition: The concept behind this Gucci campaign was for fans to download the pattern of one of three iconic Gucci bags, and then make their version of one of them using paper and other materials. The competitors would then photograph the result and upload it to the competition’s dedicated Facebook page.

Thousands of submissions and votes later, the selection was narrowed down to nine beautiful recreations, and yesterday, Gucci’s creative Director, Frida Gianni selected the three winners.

From left to right:

‘Jackie’: Soyoung Jung of Korea
‘Stirrup’: Gerardo Larrea of Peru
‘New Bamboo’: Monia di Liello of Italy

The three bags are now featured as the cover image of Gucci’s Facebook Timeline, and the creators behind each of them will be receiving a complimentary Gucci handbag.

Good work and congrats!

Swiss Style Statement

When it comes to the refined details, no one quite does it like the Swiss. Bally celebrates its 160th anniversary and what better way for the label to celebrate then by paying homage to its Swiss heritage? With an exclusive collection – the Edelweiss Collection for women – the theme is preppy with a twist and each lovingly-crafted piece carries the specially designed 160th logo that incorporates the Bally crest. The brand’s creative directors Michael Herz and Graeme Fidler say, “We are committed to defining the future with not only contemporary collections, but also making Bally’s craftsmanship visible in fresh, modern ways.”

Chasing Harry Winston

The Midnight Big Date is a new edition to Harry Winston’s Midnight collection. Powered by a self-winding movement, its black or silver-toned dial features a circular guilloché pattern. The sunburst satin-brushed hour circle is positioned at 12 o’clock while a “porthole” at 6 o’clock reveals the twin-aperture date display. We love the single diamond perced above the day date. Very dandy.

Ideal for: Those who believe that diamonds are a daily affair
