On May 8th 2013, the evening before the Cruise Collection show which will take place at Loewen Cluster on the Dempsey hill, Karl Lagerfeld unveiled his two new short films Women Only and Once Upon a Time… during a private screening at the Raffles Hotel in Singapore.
The Palm Court, a charming interior courtyard at this legendary hotel, was chosen as the theatrical backdrop for the screening. Within this verdant showcase, where Charlie Chaplin and Somerset Maugham once wrote beneath the shade of the palm trees, the guests were invited to enjoy a preview of these two short films, followed by a tropical interlude during the cocktail party.

Following, Venice, Saint-Tropez, Cap d’Antibes and the Bosquet des trois fontaines in Versailles, Karl Lagerfeld presented the CHANEL 2013/14 Cruise collection in Dempsey Hill, Singapore. With its eternal summer, tropical vegetation and exotic trips and journeys, Singapore is the ideal platform for this spring ritual.
Disused buildings were redesigned with an air of the tropics with long galleries below the roofs, black and white blinds and refreshing whitewashed walls. As night fell Karl Lagerfeld took guests on a journey through time with his collection that mixes Mademoiselle Chanel in Deauville in 1913 with a colonial style.

The beauty of a woman is in her eyes. ‘Eyes speak of her feminity and charm and they reveal her inner beauty’, says the House of Chanel. Sublimage La Creme Yeux, the new interpretation of Sublimage eye cream is a feather light formula that melts onto delicate skin, not only fighting early signs of ageing but also tackling dark circles and puffiness. Enriched in the active fruit and flower of Vanilla Planifolia, the crème plumps and contours the eye area leaving it glowing, toned and firmer. Bright and luminous, the result is striking, stand-out eyes.

New York set the scene last week for the launch of Karl Lagerfeld and long-time French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld’s latest collaborative project, “The Little Black Jacket: Chanel’s Classic Revisited”. The project, a photography exhibition and much awaited coffee table book showcases black-and-white photographs, shot by Karl Lagerfeld himself that pay homage to the iconic clothing piece.
More than a hundred celebrities, actors, artists, singers, and rock stars, each with their own individual flair, are shot wearing a black, tweed Chanel Jacket, to a surprisingly varied effect. “It’s play time with an item that is timeless” according to Lagerfeld. “The Chanel jacket has become the symbol of certain elegance, feminine, with an air of nonchalance, classic and timeless, that is of all times”. The proof is in the photographs; Chanel’s Little Black Jacket remains to be a dynamic staple that can be worn by anyone, anyway.
The book is scheduled for release this spring.

In a way that only he can, Karl Largerfeld unveiled the playful and opulent Chanel 2012/13 Summer Ready-To-Wear range this month in Paris. With the Chateau de Versille’s legendary garden fountains as the centrepiece, a charming scene was set, perfect for the 18th Century inspired frivolity that took place.
Favouring the pastel and floral trend, Lagerfeld was able to strike a balance between playful, costume like design and 21st century sensibility. Models sported pastel; bob-top bespoke wigs to set off the floral sleeved frocks, gold embroidered denim vests and rich brocade-infused one-piece swimsuits in a futuristic Marie Antoinette style.
“It is Coco rock, French rock with a very 18th century frivolity, one that’s been updated with new materials and new proportions,” Karl Largerfeld explained.

Chanel’s Fall/Winter 2011-2012 Ready-To-Wear showcased monochromatic tones, dark prints and huge pockets. Dresses and skirts were rarely seen on the Chanel runway as ladies were clad in black comfortable jumpsuits made up of a variety of materials like lace and tweed. Chic and sophisticated yet undeniably quirky, Mr. Lagerfeld does it again.

“I want you to create something that is spectacular beyond anything that exists in Asia and arguably the world. I want it to be iconic architecture, but I also want it to be something that is unique to Singapore.” This was the vision given by Mr. Sheldon G. Adelson, CEO and Treasurer of Las Vegas Sands, not to mention number 73 on the Forbes list of World’s Richest People, to Moshe Safdie Associates, the commissioned architects of the Marina Bay Sands. Inside this impressive facade, the Marina Bay Sands is an epicenter of luxury retail stores, celebrity chef restaurants and, of course, the casino. David Sylvester, Senior Vice President Retail Asia, Las Vegas Sands Corp says, “Some constants which define luxury universally are bespoke experiences and products, premium service, artisan craftsmanship and dedication to the highest quality, to name but a few. Singapore and Southeast Asia are an increasingly important market for luxury retailers.” Catering to their up-market and globalroaming clientele, Marina Bay Sands has partnered the “premium” and “artisan” luxury brands such as Dior (pictured), Chanel and Ferragamo(pictured), to retail an exclusive range or single product within their Marina Bay Sands store.
President and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Thomas Arasi adds, “We have just announced Ku De Ta, located right at the edge of the Sands SkyPark Observation Deck. This expansive venue which spans over 14,500 square feet, 200 meters on top of the three Marina Bay Sands Hotel towers, will redefine the city’s entertainment scene as it brings together a world-class team of chefs, mixologists, sommeliers, and DJs, whose aim is to create Singapore’s finest lifestyle venue. In December, our light and water show will be launched, that’s going to include two water screens out in the bay, and an envelopment of all our structures with light and water.” Bring it.

Poster reccomends devotees of the godlike Chanel to keep an eye out for the Joe Wright-directed (he of Pride & Prejudice and Atonement fame) sequel to the Coco Mademoiselle perfume advertisements. Themed ‘Boldness and freedom in the city of light’, Keira Knightley reprises the role of ‘coy sex kitten’ she played in the first ad, although this time the taut-cheekboned English actress swaps the Chanel couture dress for a Chanel jumpsuit in powder pink, replete with matching bike and helmet. First day of shooting the sequel of COCO MADEMOISELLE advertisement featuring Keira Knightley with Joe Wright directing.
