Turning the overtly sexual into wearable fashion is the aim of 2011 runway success Phoenix Keating.
The collection named DE-SEX could be what classifies as ready to wear fetish fashion that has been de-sexualised, with latex and rope binding being amongst the chosen components this collection pushes the boundaries of what we consider wearable.
It’s a collection that was designed with the power of women in mind, and with an ambassador like Lady Gaga its sure to make an impact on its audience.

When it comes to the refined details, no one quite does it like the Swiss. Bally celebrates its 160th anniversary and what better way for the label to celebrate then by paying homage to its Swiss heritage? With an exclusive collection – the Edelweiss Collection for women – the theme is preppy with a twist and each lovingly-crafted piece carries the specially designed 160th logo that incorporates the Bally crest. The brand’s creative directors Michael Herz and Graeme Fidler say, “We are committed to defining the future with not only contemporary collections, but also making Bally’s craftsmanship visible in fresh, modern ways.”

There is just something undeniably sensual about the Gucci woman. “She is a polished woman with a decisive personality, who is attentive to detail and willing to dare,” commented Frida Giannini, creative director for the Italian fashion house. Flowing ethereal dresses have a sexy approach with see-through effects, while the female dandy is given extra-wide pants in lightweight nabuk fabric. For the Women’s Fall/Winter 2011-2012 collection, Gucci fuses the glamour power of the 1970′s together with mysterious allure the 1940′s. The result? Film noir in colour.

First spotted by Vogue China co-founder and ex-Editor in Chief of Vogue Australia, Nancy Pilcher, in 2010, Song for the Mute, a progressive menswear label by Sydney based duo, Melvin Tenaya and Lyna Ty, are starting to hit their strides. The pair won this years L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival Designer Award, then followed it up with a Young Designer of the Year gong at Singapore’s inaugural Men’s Fashion Week. Song doe the Mute’s award-winning collections featured a raft of wool-derived wonders: boiled wool coats, reversible boiled wool backpacks and their signature single-pleated, J-shaped ‘curve pants’, made from double wool jersey and Japanese denim. The objective of Song for the Mute is ‘to merge construction with the fabric to showcase the fabric itself’, says Tanaya. Lyna Ty, the brand’s Parisian- born designer and co-founder echoes: ‘We choose fabrics that talk to us in a certain way. To us, the design comes after we fall in love with the fabric, not the other way.’

“There is no style without design and no design without style”. That’s the design philosophy of Brisbane interiors designer Emma Elizabeth. Her eye-catching circular diamond rugs caught the eye of Designer Rugs judges in December 2010, selecting her as one of 5 finalists in a rug design competition featured in The Other Hemisphere Exhibition in Milan and in Sydney’s Supa Centa in June.
It is clear this energetic self-starter is talented as well as ambitious. Italian Universities make students sign waivers over designs, keeping the rights to product conception in-house. Luckily for her, this post-graduation rug designed for a retail/ commercial space is hers alone. A keen follower of fashion and a regular international traveller she wanted to fuse fashion with interiors, selecting 100% commercial grade New Zealand wool for the rug. One side is black and white, the other side brightly coloured.
The twenty six year old is drawn to minimalism, citing the Japanese aesthetic as something she admires. Influenced by her Italian environment during her student years she cites ‘sleek and fashion’ as two aspects she has absorbed by osmosis. Her other designs including wall paper, furniture pieces encased in Perspex and ‘sliced’ wooden furniture reflect these aspects.

Chanel’s Fall/Winter 2011-2012 Ready-To-Wear showcased monochromatic tones, dark prints and huge pockets. Dresses and skirts were rarely seen on the Chanel runway as ladies were clad in black comfortable jumpsuits made up of a variety of materials like lace and tweed. Chic and sophisticated yet undeniably quirky, Mr. Lagerfeld does it again.
