Stefano Canturi may very well go down in Australian fashion history as its most prolific master jeweller – an artisan genius, who, driven by a need to create, vivified the concept of artistically-led high jewellery. (Case in point: Canturi’s opulent ‘Satine’, the bespoke 134-carat diamond necklace worn by actress Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge) But as his 25th anniversary approaches in 2011, the 44-year-old Stefano Canturi, a former sculptor, is raising the artisanal stakes again, this time courtesy of the luxurious Canturi eau de parfum fragrance. Launched in view of the Sydney Opera House in October at iconic restaurant, Guillaume at Bennelong, Canturi eau de parfum is an olfactory unification of the traditional Oriental and Chypre fragrances – think citrus top notes, supported by nuances such as Calabrian Bergamot (the family of Canturi, an Australian, hails from Calabria, Italy), Mandarin Leaves and Neroli. Canturi reportedly cites Cubism as the main influence in the creation of his jewellery, explaining, “It (Cubism) was one of the most creative periods in time; people saw art in a way they had never seen before. The mood was of discovery, modernity and confidence”. The maestro has continued along a similar vein with the brand’s debut scent; the bottle, with its elegant, interweaving lines, is reminiscent of the brand’s ‘Canturi Cubism Pendant’. “Like jewellery, fragrance is the ultimate expression of the wearer’s personality,” says Stefano Canturi. Available exclusively in Lane Crawford, Hong Kong, Bergdorf Goodman (US), Canturi Stores in Australia, Las Vegas and New York and Myer stores nationally in Australia.
